SQL-Sybase-Ansible Database Administrator

This contract position is for an experienced Database Administrator with expertise in Sybase, SQL Server, and Ansible automation. The role is based in Hyderabad or Pune, Telangana, India, and requires a strong background in database operations, automation, and production support within DevOps and Agile environments. The ideal candidate will have 6 to 8 years of relevant experience and be comfortable working in a hybrid setup with 24/7 shift coverage and face-to-face interactions as required.

Key Responsibilities

• Administer and maintain Microsoft SQL Server (2016/2019/2022) and Sybase ASE 16 databases.
• Perform database installation, configuration, upgrades, migrations, patching, and environment setup.
• Implement and manage SQL Server high availability and disaster recovery solutions, including Always On Availability Groups, Database Mirroring, and Failover Clustering.
• Optimize database performance through T-SQL query optimization, execution plan analysis, indexing strategies, and stored procedure tuning.
• Conduct performance tuning, including locking/blocking analysis, deadlock troubleshooting, transaction log management, TempDB optimization, and capacity planning.
• Develop and execute backup and recovery strategies, including point-in-time recovery, disaster recovery testing, and database integrity checks.
• Monitor and administer databases proactively, including alerting, health checks, job scheduling, and performance analysis.
• Manage database security, including user management, RBAC, permissions, and audit compliance.
• Automate database administration and operational tasks using PowerShell and Ansible.
• Work with Windows Server administration, including JSON, YAML, and infrastructure automation.
• Utilize container technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes for database environments.
• Develop APIs using Python FastAPI and support DevOps-enabled database environments.
• Leverage DevOps tools including Jira, Git, Jenkins, Confluence, and Splunk.
• Support CI/CD pipelines for automated deployments, testing, build, and release management.
• Provide production support, including incident management, crisis call handling, RCA preparation, and problem management.
• Support UAT and production environments for banking and vendor applications.
• Apply ITIL processes for change management, release management, audit controls, and regulatory compliance.
• Document processes, share knowledge, and collaborate across teams.
• Manage multiple priorities independently in fast-paced, dynamic environments.

Requirements

• Education: BTech
• 6 to 8 years of experience in database administration with Sybase and SQL Server.
• Strong operational experience with Microsoft SQL Server (2016/2019/2022) and Sybase ASE 16.
• Mandatory skills: Sybase, SQL Server, DBA, Ansible, Jenkins.
• Advanced knowledge of SQL for querying, data manipulation, and database object management.
• Experience with Windows, PowerShell, T-SQL, JSON, and YAML.
• Expertise in automation using Ansible.
• Experience with container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
• API development experience with Python FastAPI.
• Familiarity with DevOps tools: Jira, Git, Jenkins, Confluence, Splunk.
• Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and Agile methodologies.
• Strong troubleshooting skills in production support environments.
• Experience supporting UAT and production environments, especially in banking applications.
• Working knowledge of ITIL processes.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
