SQL Server Performance Tuning Specialist

We are seeking a skilled SQL Server Performance Tuning Specialist to join our team on a contract basis. The primary objective of this role is to review and optimize SQL Server queries that have been converted from Oracle (PL/SQL) to MSSQL using automated tools, driving measurable performance improvements.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyze and optimize poorly performing SQL Server queries and stored procedures.
• Review auto-converted Oracle queries and refactor them for native SQL Server efficiency.
• Perform execution plan analysis and identify bottlenecks (CPU, IO, indexing, joins).
• Redesign indexing strategies and query structures to improve performance.
• Identify issues arising from PL/SQL ? T?SQL conversion (syntax, logic, execution differences).
• Work with application and infrastructure teams to baseline, measure, and validate improvements.
• Provide actionable recommendations and re-engineered queries/scripts.

Requirements

• Strong expertise in SQL Server (T?SQL) and performance tuning.
• Proven experience in query optimization, execution plans, indexing, and workload analysis.
• Hands-on experience in Oracle to SQL Server migration/conversion projects.
• Deep understanding of PL/SQL vs T?SQL differences and refactoring approaches.
• Familiarity with tools such as SSMS, Query Store, DMVs, Profiler, SSMA.
• Experience tuning high-volume transactional systems.
