Embedded Hardware-Lead Designer Engineer

Hardware-Lead designer Embedded Hardware Engineer for Value Engineering team, focusing on cost optimization, lead time reduction, component standardization, and supply chain resilience for HVAC product lines across globe.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review Requirements, Schematic and BOMs to identify value engineering opportunities for cost, lead time, SKU consolidation, and sourcing flexibility.
  • Analyze and improve existing hardware designs to support cost optimization, obsolescence mitigation, and supply chain resilience.
  • Evaluate and implement alternate electronic and electro-mechanical components (e.g., VFD units, relays, transformers, contactors etc).
  • Design and modify embedded systems using 8/16/32-bit microcontrollers, integrating both analog and digital circuitry.
  • Replace custom or high-cost unique components with standard, cost-effective equivalents without compromising function, manufacturability, or regulatory compliance.
  • Update and maintain schematics, BOMs, component libraries, and supporting design documents.
  • Support sustenance engineering activities such as component lifecycle management and redesigns.
  • Contribute to compliance support, including UL/CE re-certification following design updates.
  • Propose and validate alternate PCB layouts for cost and manufacturability improvements.
  • Prepare and execute module/system-level test plans for modified hardware.
  • Able to prepare component tests plans based on data sheets and application scenarios.
  • Adhere to internal product development and engineering change processes and contributing to continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • 7?10 years of Embedded hardware design and development experience, with good exposure to value engineering or sustaining engineering roles.
  • Hands on experience in mixed-signal embedded system design using 8/16/32-bit microcontrollers (e.g., PIC, TI MSP, ST).
  • Skilled in digital and analog circuits, including op-amps, ADCs/DACs, filters, and signal conditioning.
  • Exposure to electro-mechanical components such as transformers, relays, contactors, and fan controls.
  • Experience in VE and component engineering and alternate part qualification.
  • Exposure to schematic capture (OrCAD, Dx-Designer) and PCB layout tools (Allegro, OrCAD Layout).
  • Experience in stress analysis, MTBF/MMBTF estimation, and reliability evaluation.
  • Knowledge of compliance requirements (UL, CE, REACH, RoHS) and experience supporting certification processes.
  • Well versed in using HW Equipment ? Digital multimeter, DSO, LRC meters, AC/ DC Power supplies, Function generator etc.
  • Understanding of DFM/DFT principles and manufacturing interface requirements.
  • Experienced with version control and defect tracking systems.
  • Strong documentation, collaboration, and cross-functional communication skills.
  • Self-motivated, quick learner, and committed to delivering results in a team-driven, collaborative environment.
