BIM Engineer - Structure
The BIM Engineer - Structure will be responsible for the development, coordination, and management of structural BIM models with a strong specialization in steel structures, connection detailing, and fabrication-level modeling. This role involves translating structural analysis and design outputs into accurate, constructible 3D models suitable for coordination, shop drawings, and on-site execution. The candidate will work closely with structural design engineers, fabricators, and multidisciplinary BIM teams to ensure that steel systems, including beams, columns, bracing systems, trusses, and connections, are modeled with high precision and aligned with project specifications. A solid understanding of structural behavior, load paths, and connection design principles is essential to ensure that BIM models reflect both design intent and practical constructability.
Key Responsibilities
- Structural BIM Modeling (Steel Focus): Develop and manage advanced structural BIM models using Revit and/or Tekla, including steel frames, space structures, trusses, bracings, and composite systems; ensure accurate modeling of member sizes, profiles, and structural configurations in alignment with engineering calculations.
- Steel Design Interpretation & Detailing: Interpret structural analysis and design outputs (STAAD, ETABS, SAP2000, etc.) and translate them into detailed BIM models; develop connection detailing including base plates, gusset plates, anchor bolts, splice connections, and weld/bolt configurations; ensure models are suitable for fabrication and erection.
- Shop Drawings & Fabrication Support: Prepare GA drawings, shop drawings, and assembly details directly from BIM models; support fabrication workflows by ensuring model accuracy, tagging, numbering, and material specifications; coordinate with fabricators for detailing requirements and revisions.
- Coordination & Clash Resolution: Lead structural coordination with Architecture and MEP disciplines; perform clash detection using Navisworks and resolve spatial and constructability issues; ensure proper integration of steel elements with building systems and services.
- Standards & Code Compliance: Ensure all structural models comply with relevant codes such as AISC, BS, Eurocode, and SBC, as well as BIM standards including LOD 300-500 requirements; maintain adherence to project-specific modeling and documentation standards.
- Quality Assurance (QA/QC): Conduct detailed QA/QC checks on structural models and drawings, verifying dimensions, connection details, tolerances, and constructability; ensure error-free deliverables prior to issue for fabrication or construction.
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor's Degree in Civil / Structural Engineering or related field.
- Technical Skills: Revit Structure, Tekla Structures (preferred), Navisworks; steel modeling and detailing.
- Standards: AISC, BS, Eurocode, SBC.
- Experience: 3-5 years in structural BIM modeling and steel modeling experience is an advantage.
- Preferred Qualifications: Experience in industrial, commercial, or steel-intensive projects; GCC experience is an added advantage.
- Soft Skills: Strong analytical thinking, coordination skills, and attention to detail.
Work Arrangements
- Type: Full-Time
- Location: Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India
